About Us

At Dalton Moor Farm, we are passionate about supporting and regenerating our natural environment

and we have picked up a few awards along the way to help mark our progress.

We won Highly Commended, Natural Environment Category Winner

in the County Durham Environment Awards 2020.

Our business has been awarded Gold Accreditation with Green Tourism.

We were finalists in the i-Travel Staycation Awards 2021 in two categories - Green Space / Experience

We were finalists in the Rural Business Awards 2021 - North

- The Sustainability & Environmental Impact Awards

Jenny has been named among the i-also top 100 inspirational female entrepreneurs 2022.

Jenny has lived in the Old Farm House on the wild and rugged Dalton Moor since 1992.

The house is about 400 years old and the stone barns may be older still.

Jenny bought some land around the house in 2011 and some more in 2015, and set about bringing wildlife back to the featureless ex-arable land.

With her husband Tom and help from Philip, the farm lad, Jenny has restored a diverse habitat across the farm.

She has protected the land with fences, reinstated ditches, planted many miles of fruitful hedges and thousands of trees, dividing up the land into smaller paddocks to create differing habitats that link together. Along with several 'Newt' ponds, and wet areas, these combine to form a diverse ecosystem that Mother Nature can sustain into the future.

Check out the videos in our Blog about environmental regeneration and rewilding at the farm

From a very young age, Jenny has been fascinated by apples, trees and all things nature.

She has yearned to have an orchard, with all its fruits and wildlife, and also wanted to make 'real' Cider.

She planted her first orchard in 2013 and four more in 2019.

From Apples and other cultivated and foraged fruits and herbs, Jenny makes a range of delicious and unusual Vegan Drinks and preserves.

See our range of Cider, Fruit Juices, Vegan HUNNY and preserves in our SHOP

Jenny is passionate too about sharing knowledge and experience, to bring people closer to nature, to empower them to become more independent, more self-reliant, to live more sustainably, to create community, and to move away from the ego-centric, heavily dependent, plastic packed, all-consuming, environmentally damaging, emotionally unrewarding, throwaway society that has increasingly become the norm today.

The School of Sustainable Living and Wellbeing was established in 2020 and offers a range of fun, educational experiences for all ages and abilities.

See our range of regular activities on the Events Page or choose from a range of bespoke events on the Special Events page.

Foraging Walk

“The foraging course by Jenny was great. Really informative and it made a huge difference in identifying edible wild plants in real life (difficult to do just from a book) which I’d mot even considered before … our hedgerows are truly abundant … brilliant … thanks Jenny”

Foraging Walk

“I attended Jenny’s wild food walk and was amazed by her knowledge on the plants we were introduced to. We were given so many uses of all the parts of the plants from using them in foods and drinks, to health benefits and natural dyes. From start to finish I was immersed in the talk and can’t wait to attend another of Jenny’s walks in the future. I would highly recommend.”

Foraging Walk

“I had a thoroughly enjoyable morning at the farm on the foraging course and left feeling informed and inspired. Jenny is very knowledgeable and I was made to feel comfortable and relaxed throughout the morning. You’ll be surprised to learn about all the plants we consider ‘weeds’, it’s such a shame humans have become so detached from wild food, but after spending the morning with Jenny I am determined to compliment my meals with goodies from Nature’s store”

Foraging Walk

“Myself and my daughter has the pleasure of meeting Jenny and her husband today on the wild foraging walk at their beautiful farm. From the very beginning we were made to feel welcome.

Jenny was fantastic and extremely knowledgeable about the plants we encountered and I learnt so much about the wild plants around us and can say Jenny has given me the confidence to give it a go. Also the Facebook support/ information group for people who have done the walk is a fantastic addition to the walk and experience,

We also got some treats from the food shop and wow! They are so delicious.

Would definitely recommend it.

Thank you so much xx”

Jenny is extremely knowledgeable and I came away with some great notes and photos of all kinds of useful wild plants – and some experiences tasting them too! It has definitely given me some confidence to forage some plants myself. Apple Cider Vinegar

“I recently bought Dalton Moor Farm’s Apple Cider Vinegar at the vegan festival in Edinburgh! All I can say is WOW! What an amazing product. The vinegar is beautifully balanced with just the right level of acidity but very flavoursome. It has a slight sweetness from the fresh apples and because it is a live vinegar which contains the Mother it is super good for you. I’ll never buy ‘******’ ACV again. Highly recommended for those who prefer a live vinegar to just plain old acetic acid. ….. you must try this stuff!!”

Vegan HUNNY

“I bought your vegan HUNNY in Edinburgh. It is amazing! I am having it in my porridge right now!”

An enjoyable day, really enjoyed the activities. Thought it was good value for money and quite informative. Very relaxed and informal atmosphere. Tour of the farm was well paced and the order of activities: foraging, mindfulness, lunch, meditation, tree hugging.

Bramble Basket Weaving Workshop

Great to have a vegan farm nearby offering a range of workshops and produce. We really enjoyed the bramble basket weaving. Jenny was very patient when explaining over and over what we needed to do and helped us all achieve a finished basket. I'd never heard of making baskets with brambles before. I love the fact we were using sustainable materials to create a lovely, useful basket, which I will treasure. We really appreciated being on a vegan farm for the day. Thank you Jenny!

Foraging Walk

Was an amazing morning making connections and learning things long forgotten in our modern lives. It is amazing the diversity of available foodstuffs we don't eat which are free to pick. it was well worth getting soaked to listen to Jenny's knowledge and she was generous in regard to questions asked. An educational and interesting experience.

Foraging Walk

Extremely interesting, enjoyable and informative morning. So many plants, even 'weeds' with so many beneficial properties. I'll never again look at a hedgerow in quite the same way.

Willow Basket Weaving Workshop

I really enjoyed the willow weaving day. Jenny was extremely helpful throughout even if you had made a big mistake! With patience and good humour she found a way around.

We worked in a big airy barn. Lots of room and endless tea, coffee and hot chocolate.

A little shop in the barn sold so many of her jams, chutneys, cordials and her vegan HUNNY, recommended by Matt Baker on Countryfile.

Where does she get the time being a full time farmer as well? I highly recommend the day. Do try it yourself.

Garden Willow Weaving and Jam

I've just finished my breakfast of toast and your lovely plum jam.

I really enjoyed (the workshop) yesterday and my obelisk is now in situ ready for my sweet pea plants.

It's a lovely place you have there and your passion for the environment is inspiring.

I will spread the word. Many thanks
